Who might be able to join this trial:

For people joining as part of the clinical (depression) group, there is one additional requirement:
- People who are currently experiencing a mild or moderate major depressive episode, or a persistent depressive disorder, as defined by standard diagnostic guidelines (confirm with trial site)
Who may not be able to join:
- People who currently have a severe substance use disorder (such as a serious addiction to alcohol or drugs)
- People who are currently having thoughts of suicide or self-harm
- People who are currently experiencing a severe major depressive episode
- People who have ever been diagnosed with bipolar disorder
- People who have ever been diagnosed with a psychotic disorder (such as schizophrenia)
For people joining as the control (comparison) group, there are additional criteria that may prevent participation:
- People who have experienced a major depressive episode within the last 12 months
- People who have ever had a severe major depressive episode
- People who have had depression that has come back more than once
- People who have ever been diagnosed with persistent depressive disorder
- People who are currently receiving therapy or taking medication for depression
