Who might be able to join this trial:
- People over 18 years old who have symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD — commonly known as acid reflux or heartburn) that have not improved enough after taking acid-reducing medications called proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) for at least 8 weeks.
- People who have had a camera examination of the upper digestive tract (a scope procedure) that did not show visible damage or sores in the food pipe (esophagus).
- People across a range of symptom severity levels, as measured by a standard reflux symptom questionnaire called the GERDq score.
Who may not be able to join:
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- People who have certain conditions affecting the food pipe (esophagus), such as movement or muscle disorders of the esophagus, a condition called eosinophilic esophagitis, or cancer in that area.
- People who have serious ongoing health conditions that are not well controlled, such as diabetes, thyroid problems, or cancer.
- People who are not willing or able to give their informed consent to participate in the trial.
- People who have severe psychiatric (mental health) disorders.
