Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been formally diagnosed with multiple myeloma (MM).
- People whose multiple myeloma can be measured through specific blood or urine tests showing certain levels of disease markers.
- People whose multiple myeloma has come back or stopped responding to treatment, and who have received at least 1 but no more than 3 previous lines of treatment.
- Male participants must agree to use contraception or practice complete abstinence during the study treatment, during any breaks in treatment, and for at least 5 months after finishing treatment (including those who have had a vasectomy).
- Female participants must not be pregnant or breastfeeding, and must either not be capable of becoming pregnant, or agree to use contraception or practice complete abstinence during the study.
- People who are able to understand and sign an informed consent form agreeing to take part.
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose multiple myeloma never responded to any treatment at all during the course of their disease.
- People who have previously received a type of treatment called anti-CD38 therapy, if that treatment was given less than 6 months before the start of this trial, or if they could not tolerate it.
- People whose myeloma stopped responding to a drug called carfilzomib.
- People with a known allergy or serious sensitivity to any of the ingredients in the study medications, where that reaction cannot be managed with standard preventive medicines.
- People who have a medical reason they cannot take dexamethasone or carfilzomib.
- People who have received any myeloma treatment (including dexamethasone) within 14 days before the trial starts.
- People who have previously had a stem cell transplant from a donor and are still experiencing graft versus host disease, or who have been on immune-suppressing medication for it within the last 2 months.
- People who have had a major medical procedure (such as major surgery, plasmapheresis, or radiotherapy) within 14 days before the trial starts.
- People who have received a live vaccine within 4 weeks before the trial starts (non-live flu vaccines are generally permitted).
- People who the treating doctor considers unsuitable for any reason, including medical conditions or concerns about being able to follow study procedures.
