Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults aged 18 or older
- People who have a confirmed HIV diagnosis and have been on a stable HIV treatment (antiretroviral) regimen for at least 90 days
- People who have had ongoing pain related to HIV for at least 90 days
- People who have either been on a stable pain management plan for at least 90 days, or have not used any pain treatments for at least 90 days
- People whose average daily pain level is rated 3 or higher out of 10 on a pain scale (measured between the first two study visits)
- People who have access to the internet through a smartphone, computer, or tablet
- People who are fluent in English
- People who are able to give their own consent to participate and are willing to follow the study procedures
Who may not be able to join:
- People with another medical or mental health condition that could interfere with taking part in the study or make it hard to measure the results
- People who are currently taking part in another research study for pain treatment
- People whose mental health condition, medical condition, or life situation would, in the lead researcher's judgement, make it unlikely they could complete the study
- People who have a current or past diagnosis of epilepsy, seizures, dementia, migraines, or other neurological (brain or nervous system) conditions that would make using a virtual reality (VR) device unsafe
- People with a medical condition that makes them prone to nausea or dizziness
- People who do not have full depth perception (stereoscopic vision) in both eyes, or who have severe hearing impairment
- People who have an injury to their eyes, face, or neck that would prevent them from using a VR headset
- People who own personal VR equipment and are not willing to agree to avoid using it for the duration of the study
- People who are currently pregnant or planning to become pregnant during the study period
