Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are willing to take part voluntarily and able to sign a consent form
- You are between 50 and 70 years old (any gender)
- You have been diagnosed with typical Parkinson's disease, and have had it for less than 20 years
- You are planning to have a specific type of brain stimulation surgery (called deep brain stimulation, or DBS) on both sides of the brain, using a particular device compatible with 3.0T MRI scanners (G106R or G106RS, made by Beijing Pinchi Company)
- Your MRI scan did not show any major structural changes in the brain
- Your vision and hearing are roughly normal, you are able to follow instructions well, and you can complete the tasks required by the study
Who may not be able to join:
- You have serious mental health, thinking, or psychological problems that would prevent you from signing a consent form or taking part in the required tasks
- You have medical conditions that make brain surgery unsafe, such as fluid build-up in the brain, significant brain shrinkage, stroke-related complications, heart disease, or other serious heart or blood vessel conditions
- You have other serious health conditions such as cancer, or significantly reduced liver or kidney function (more than 3 times above normal levels)
- You have a brain growth or lesion, blood vessel disease in the brain, a psychiatric condition, another neurological condition, a fear of enclosed spaces (claustrophobia), or a medical implant in your body that could interfere with MRI scanning
- Your score on standard memory and thinking tests taken before surgery falls below a certain level, or other test results suggest you have severe dementia (confirm with trial site for exact score thresholds)
