Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You are a Veteran who has been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease by a neurologist, and your condition is at a moderate stage (not too early and not too advanced — specifically stage 2 or 3 on a standard disease scale)
  • You are able to make your own healthcare decisions, which will be checked using a short assessment quiz (a score of 14.5 or above is needed to participate)
  • For one part of the study (Aim 3) only: you are a Veteran who also has a specific type of brain stimulation device already implanted, called a Percept DBS device, placed in a specific area of the brain called the subthalamic nucleus (STN)

Who may not be able to join:

  • Veterans whose memory or thinking problems are severe enough to prevent them from making their own healthcare decisions
  • Veterans who have a form of movement disorder that looks like Parkinson's but is a different condition (such as PSP or CBGD) (confirm with trial site)
  • Veterans whose Parkinson's disease has progressed beyond stage 3 on the standard disease scale
  • Veterans who experience a significant drop in blood pressure when they stand up, causing symptoms (confirm with trial site for exact definition)
  • For the brain stimulation part of the study (Aim 3) only: Veterans whose DBS device is implanted in a different location in the brain than the specific area this study is focused on

Important: Always verify eligibility with the trial site directly before applying.
