Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are between 40 and 70 years old
- You have symptoms that match carpal tunnel syndrome, such as numbness, tingling, weakness, or pain in your fingers, symptoms that get worse with gripping or at night, and signs of nerve problems in your hand detected during a physical examination
- A hand diagram assessment confirms you likely have carpal tunnel syndrome (confirm with trial site)
- An ultrasound scan shows that the band of tissue across your wrist has thickened and is pressing on the nerve in your wrist
- You have already tried non-surgical treatments (such as a wrist splint, anti-inflammatory tablets, or steroid injections) for more than 3 months without enough improvement
- You are willing and able to sign a consent form to take part
Who may not be able to join:
- Your ultrasound shows an unusual nerve or blood vessel arrangement in your wrist, or that your symptoms are caused by a cyst, tumour, or bone fragment
- You currently have an infection anywhere in your body, or at the wrist where the procedure would take place
- You have a serious problem with blood clotting
- You have already had surgery on the same wrist for carpal tunnel syndrome
- You have uncontrolled epilepsy, a nerve problem coming from your neck, or nerve damage caused by diabetes
- You are allergic to local anaesthetic medicines
- You are unable to fill in questionnaires due to language difficulties or memory/thinking problems
- You have a serious condition affecting your heart, lungs, liver, or brain
- You have a diagnosed mental illness
- You have taken part in another clinical trial in the past three months
- You are pregnant or currently breastfeeding
