Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People who have been diagnosed with high blood pressure that is not well controlled (with specific blood pressure readings measured over the day using a monitoring device), even while taking 2 or more types of blood pressure medications

Who may not be able to join:

  • People whose blood pressure is extremely high (above certain levels) on the day they are enrolled into the trial
  • People whose kidney artery narrowing is caused by a condition called fibromuscular dysplasia or any cause other than a hardening/build-up in the arteries (atherosclerosis)
  • People who are pregnant, or women of childbearing age whose pregnancy status is unknown
  • People who are already taking part in another clinical trial involving a drug or medical device
  • People who have had a stroke or mini-stroke (TIA), or who have a significant narrowing (70% or more) in the arteries in the neck
  • People who have had major surgery, a heart attack, or a similar procedure in the 30 days before joining the study
  • People whose heart pumping function is significantly reduced (below 30%) (confirm with trial site)
  • People who have another serious health condition that means they are not expected to live more than one year
  • People who are allergic to contrast dye used in X-ray procedures, or to aspirin or clopidogrel (common blood-thinning medications)
  • People who have previously had a kidney transplant
  • People who have previously had bypass surgery or a stent placed in a kidney artery
  • People whose kidney measures less than 8cm when checked by ultrasound
  • People whose kidney function blood test result is above a certain level on the day of enrolment (confirm with trial site)
  • People whose artery size falls outside a specific range (less than 4mm or greater than 8mm wide)
