Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People aged 18 years or older
  • People with a type of irregular heartbeat called atrial fibrillation (not caused by a heart valve problem) who are already scheduled to have two specific heart procedures: a procedure to correct the irregular heartbeat (ablation) and a procedure to close off a small pouch in the heart called the left atrial appendage (LAA)
  • People who are willing to take part, understand the purpose of the trial, and have signed a consent form (either themselves or through a legal representative), and are willing to attend all follow-up appointments as required

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who are allergic to contrast dye, or who have another condition that prevents them from having a cardiac CT scan or a type of X-ray imaging called DSA
  • People whose CT scan images are not clear enough to allow accurate measurements of the left atrial appendage
  • People whose imaging shows a blood clot in the left atrium or left atrial appendage
  • People whose atrial fibrillation is related to a heart valve problem, specifically a mechanical heart valve replacement or a significant narrowing of the mitral valve
  • People where the left atrial appendage measurements fall outside a specific range required for the procedure (confirm with trial site)
  • Women of childbearing age who are planning to become pregnant during the study's follow-up period
  • People who are currently enrolled in another clinical trial of a drug or medical device and have not yet completed that trial's main assessment points, where participation could affect the results or their ability to attend follow-up appointments
  • People who the trial investigators consider unsuitable for any other reason

Important: Always verify eligibility with the trial site directly before applying.

This study is not part of the standard drug-approval phase pathway (for example an observational, device, behavioural, or registry study), so a phase success rate does not apply.
