Who might be able to join this trial:
People with Parkinson's disease or dystonia:
- People who have been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease or dystonia by a movement disorders specialist, using standard UK Brain Bank diagnostic guidelines
- People aged between 45 and 80 years
- People who are able to walk at least 50 metres on their own without a walking aid such as a cane
Healthy older adults (control group):
- People aged between 45 and 80 years
- People who are able to walk independently without a cane or walker
Healthy younger adults (control group):
- People aged between 21 and 44 years
- People who are able to walk independently without a cane or walker
Who may not be able to join:
- People with a history of frequently fainting in response to the sight of blood, emotional stress, or sensory triggers
- People currently taking blood-thinning medications
- People with a muscle or joint condition that affects their ability to stand
- People with a history of seizures, epilepsy, stroke, multiple sclerosis, or traumatic brain injury
- People who have any metal or magnetic devices inside their skull
- People who have a pacemaker or any other implanted medical device
- People who have had surgery on their blood vessels, brain, or heart
- People experiencing unexplained, recurring headaches, or who have had a concussion in the last six months
- People with moderate to severe hearing loss
- People who are pregnant
- People who have been diagnosed with dementia
- People with other significant neurological conditions that may affect their ability to take part in the study
- People who have had a deep brain stimulator implanted or any other brain surgery to treat Parkinson's disease
