Who might be able to join this trial:

  • Both men and women are welcome to participate
  • You must be between 18 and 65 years old
  • You must have been diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder (a clinical diagnosis of depression) by a doctor, using standard diagnostic guidelines
  • Your depression symptoms must fall within a moderate range, as measured by a standard depression rating scale (a score of 14–23 on the HDRS-17 assessment)

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who have serious or unstable physical health conditions or neurological (brain/nervous system) disorders
  • People whose depression is linked to childbirth, menstrual cycles, substance or medication use, another medical condition, or other specific types of depressive disorders — only a diagnosis of Major Depressive Disorder qualifies
  • People who have other diagnosed mental health or psychiatric conditions
  • People who are currently experiencing symptoms of psychosis (such as hallucinations or delusions)
  • People who are considered to be at risk of suicide
  • People who are already receiving another form of psychological therapy or talking treatment for their depression
  • People who miss more than two appointments or sessions during the trial may be removed from the study
  • People whose depression does not respond to the medication used in the trial (Sertraline) within the first eight weeks may be removed
  • People who develop symptoms of hypomania (a mild form of unusually elevated mood or energy) at any point during the trial may be removed (confirm with trial site)
