Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You are between 18 and 75 years old, are generally able to care for yourself or do light activity, and are expected to live for more than 3 months
  • You have been diagnosed with advanced colorectal cancer (a type called adenocarcinoma) confirmed by a tissue biopsy, and your cancer has not responded to two previous standard treatments
  • You have at least one area of cancer that can be measured on a scan, according to standard guidelines
  • Your blood counts are healthy enough — including red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets — as shown by recent lab tests
  • Your liver is working well enough, as shown by liver enzyme and bilirubin blood test results
  • Your kidneys are working well enough, as shown by blood or urine tests
  • Your blood protein (albumin) levels are adequate
  • Your blood clotting tests are within an acceptable range
  • Your thyroid hormone levels are normal (or if slightly abnormal, your other thyroid levels are still within normal range)
  • A heart ultrasound shows your heart is pumping well enough (at least 50% efficiency)
  • Your blood pressure is well controlled
  • If you are a woman who could become pregnant: you agree to use contraception during the study and for 6 months after, you have a negative pregnancy test within 7 days of joining, and you are not breastfeeding
  • If you are a man: you agree to use contraception during the study and for 6 months after

Who may not be able to join:

  • You have, or have had, another type of cancer within the last 3 years
  • You have difficulty swallowing, ongoing severe diarrhea, or a bowel blockage that would make it hard to take oral medication
  • You had a gastrointestinal bleed or a hole (perforation) in your gut in the 4 weeks before joining
  • You have active inflammatory bowel disease such as ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease
  • You have uncontrolled fluid build-up around your lungs, belly, or heart
  • You still have significant side effects from a previous cancer treatment (other than hair loss)
  • You had major surgery or a serious injury within 28 days before joining
  • You have vomited blood, had blood in your stool, or had a serious bleeding event in the past 3 months, or your doctor feels your bleeding history makes you unsuitable
  • You had a blood clot or stroke — such as a pulmonary embolism or cerebrovascular accident — within the past 6 months
  • You have a history of drug or substance misuse that you are unable to stop
  • You have uncontrolled high blood pressure
  • You have serious heart problems, such as unstable chest pain, a heart attack in the last 12 months, significant heart failure, or an irregular heartbeat that cannot be controlled with medication
  • You have an active infection
  • You have severe liver disease (decompensated cirrhosis) or active hepatitis
  • Your kidneys are failing and you need dialysis
  • You have a weakened immune system, are HIV positive, have another immune deficiency condition, or have had an organ transplant
  • You have poorly controlled diabetes
  • Your urine tests show high levels of protein, suggesting kidney problems (confirm with trial site)
  • You have a history of neurological or psychiatric disorders
  • Your doctor believes you have another medical condition that could put you at risk or affect the study results
