Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who are willing and able to give their informed consent to take part in the study.
- People aged 18 years or older, of any gender.
- People who have been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease and have had a deep brain stimulation (DBS) device surgically implanted in a specific brain region, in addition to taking medication to replace dopamine.
- People who have been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, either with or without impulse control disorders (such as difficulty controlling urges or behaviours) since their Parkinson's diagnosis — both groups may be considered.
- People who are willing and able to sit in a MEG brain scanning machine and follow instructions during the study.
- People who are willing and able to delay taking their morning Parkinson's medication for up to four hours on the day of the study (to allow around 180 minutes of testing time plus travel).
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have a significant language barrier that prevents them from understanding the study's purpose or instructions, even with the help of an interpreter.
- People who have other implanted medical devices in their body that could interfere with the MEG brain scan recordings.
- People who have a history of other neurological conditions (brain or nervous system disorders) separate from Parkinson's disease.
- People who are already enrolled in another clinical trial related to a neurological condition, including Parkinson's disease, that could affect the results of this study.
- People who are unable to sit still in a MEG scanner for the full duration of the study — for example, due to chronic pain or joint conditions such as osteoarthritis. A treating clinician would assess this (confirm with trial site).
