Who might be able to join this trial:

For patients:

  • People who have a blood cancer that has come back or stopped responding to treatment
  • People who are 18 years of age or older
  • People who receive their main cancer care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI), with at least 2 outpatient visits there in the 12 months before joining the trial
  • People who have received at least one red blood cell or platelet transfusion since their blood cancer diagnosis, in a clinic or hospital setting, without a severe reaction to that transfusion
  • People who live in the area served by Care Dimensions Hospice
  • People whose doctor estimates they have six months or less to live

For caregivers:

  • People who are an informal caregiver (such as a family member or close friend) of a patient already enrolled in this trial
  • People who are 18 years of age or older

Who may not be able to join:

For patients:

  • People under 18 years of age
  • People who are already enrolled in a hospice program
  • People who currently live in a nursing home or assisted living facility
  • People who have previously had a serious adverse reaction to a blood transfusion

For caregivers:

  • People under 18 years of age
