Who might be able to join this trial:

• People who are over 60 years of age
• People who have been diagnosed with high blood pressure
• People with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or higher (a measure of body weight relative to height)
• People who have had a heart ultrasound (echocardiogram) done within 60 days before the first study visit, or who are able to have one done in that timeframe

Who may not be able to join:

• Women who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or able to become pregnant
• People who have a history of type 1 or type 2 diabetes, or whose blood sugar control measure (HbA1c) is above 7.0% at the first visit
• People who have been diagnosed with heart failure (either type: HFpEF or HFrEF), whether by self-report or recorded in their medical records
• People whose heart ultrasound has ever shown that the heart's pumping function is at or below 40%
• People whose heart ultrasound shows moderate or severe problems with the heart valves
• People who have a history of infections of the urinary or genital tract
• People whose kidney function score (eGFR) is below 60 at the first visit
• People currently taking certain diabetes or blood sugar medications, including SGLT2 inhibitors, GLP-1 agonists, or DPP-4 inhibitors
• People for whom heart bypass surgery or a procedure to open blocked arteries (PCI) is planned within the next 6 months, or who have had such a procedure in the past 2 months
• People with a known allergy or sensitivity to SGLT2 inhibitors or any of their ingredients
• People with a significant or unstable health condition that could affect their ability to complete the study, including serious skin, blood, lung, liver, digestive, urinary, hormonal, neurological, or mental health conditions
• People with a cancer that is not considered cured (except certain minor skin cancers). For this trial, "cured" means no signs of cancer returning for at least 5 years before screening
• People who have taken part in another clinical trial of an experimental drug or device within the 30 days before screening
• People whose heart ultrasound images are not clear enough to be assessed
• People currently experiencing unstable chest pain or an acute heart condition (unstable coronary syndromes)
• People who have had major surgery within the 90 days before the first visit, or who have major planned surgery scheduled within 90 days after the first visit
• People who do not speak English
