Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been diagnosed with depression that is at least moderate in severity
- People whose current depressive episode has lasted more than 2 weeks but less than 2 years
- People whose medication has remained unchanged for at least 3 weeks before the first treatment session
- People who are willing to give informed consent, are able to follow the treatment schedule, and pass the safety checks required for the brain stimulation (iTBS) and brain scan (MRI) procedures
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose current depression is only mild in severity
- People whose depression is severe enough to require a hospital stay or electroconvulsive therapy (ECT)
- People whose current depressive episode appears to be clearly caused by grief or a recent major stressful life event
- People with a diagnosis of bipolar disorder
- People with a diagnosis of borderline personality disorder
- People currently experiencing psychotic symptoms (such as hallucinations or delusions)
- People who have had problems with alcohol or drug misuse or addiction in the last 6 months
- People with a current eating disorder
- People with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)
- People with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
- People who have ever had a seizure at any point in their life
- People with any neurological or brain-related conditions, or who have had brain surgery
- People with heart conditions or other serious physical health conditions
- People who have metal implants or devices in their body, such as a pacemaker or prosthetic eye equipment
- People with a diagnosis of autism
- People who are pregnant
- People currently taking antipsychotic medications, benzodiazepines, or any other medication known to affect brain excitability (confirm with trial site)
