Who might be able to join this trial:
- You have been diagnosed with both atrial fibrillation (an irregular heartbeat) and moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea (a condition where breathing repeatedly stops during sleep)
- You are 18 years old or older
- You are willing to take part in the study and agree to sign a consent form
- You are willing to use a CPAP machine (a device that helps keep your airway open during sleep) at home at least 5 nights per week, for at least 4 hours each night, after an overnight test at a sleep center to set the right pressure for your machine
Who may not be able to join:
- You have a nerve or muscle disorder, a condition causing very shallow breathing, or a serious lung disease
- A blood clot has been found in the upper left chamber of your heart before any procedure
- You do not want your heart rhythm to be restored to a normal rhythm
- Your atrial fibrillation is caused by another condition, such as an overactive thyroid or a tumor
- You cannot take blood-thinning medications for medical reasons
- The left chamber of your heart is larger than a certain size, as measured by an ultrasound of the heart (confirm with trial site)
- You are pregnant
- You have had a heart attack, a procedure to open blocked heart arteries, or heart surgery within the past 3 months
- You have had a stroke or a mini-stroke (a brief episode of stroke-like symptoms) within the past 6 months
- You have had an artificial heart valve fitted
- You have severe kidney problems, based on specific blood and kidney function test results (confirm with trial site)
- You have an active infection or acute illness shortly before any procedure, shown by symptoms such as pain, fever, abnormal blood test results, or recent antibiotic use
- Your expected survival is less than 1 year
