Who might be able to join this trial:
- You have been diagnosed with heart failure where the heart pumps less effectively than normal (called "reduced ejection fraction"), and your heart's pumping strength has been measured at below 50% at some point in the last 12 months
- You have been diagnosed with an irregular heart rhythm called atrial fibrillation (AF) in the past 12 months, confirmed by a heart monitor or recording device — either with symptoms, or without symptoms but meeting certain monitoring criteria (confirm with trial site)
- You are between 18 and 79 years old
- You are already on, or are being started on, the recommended medications for your type of heart failure
- You are taking blood thinners to help prevent stroke, as recommended for atrial fibrillation
Who may not be able to join:
- Your doctors estimate you have less than 1 year to live
- Your Body Mass Index (BMI) is over 40
- You cannot take the medications normally used to control heart rate or rhythm (including a drug called amiodarone) due to health reasons or side effects
- The upper left chamber of your heart is significantly enlarged, based on a heart scan (echocardiogram) in the past year (confirm with trial site)
- You have had persistent or permanent atrial fibrillation for more than 1 year
- You have previously had a procedure or surgery to treat atrial fibrillation
- Your atrial fibrillation has a temporary or reversible cause, such as a recent infection, untreated thyroid problems, or recent surgery
- You have severe disease affecting your heart valves
- You have had a heart attack, heart or chest surgery, or stroke in the past 3 months
- You have heart or chest surgery planned in the near future
- You are on a waiting list for a heart transplant
- You have a medical reason why you cannot take blood thinners or have a catheter-based procedure
- You have severe kidney disease (stage 5 chronic kidney disease)
- You are pregnant
- You are not willing to try medication to manage your atrial fibrillation
- You are unwilling or unable to give your consent to take part in the study
