- People who were diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes (T1D) as an adult (aged 18 or older) between 2001 and 2020, and are listed on the National Diabetes Register
- People who were diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes (T2D) at age 18 or older between 2001 and 2020, and are recorded in the National Diabetes Register
- General members of the public (without diabetes) who are matched by age, sex, and county to people with Type 1 diabetes, drawn from the Total Population Register
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose diabetes may have been caused by pancreatic cancer — specifically, those diagnosed with a cancer of the digestive system in the year before their diabetes diagnosis, or whose cause of death was recorded as pancreatic cancer
