Who might be able to join this trial:
- You have been diagnosed with a colorectal (bowel or rectal) tumor and are receiving your first cancer treatment
- You are 18 years of age or older
- You are male or female
- You are eligible to receive a chemotherapy medication called capecitabine, either on its own or combined with another medication called oxaliplatin
- You either do not have a colostomy (a surgically created opening in the abdomen), or you have one located in the transverse, descending, or sigmoid part of the large bowel
- You are currently receiving radiotherapy (radiation treatment) combined with chemotherapy
- You live in Belo Horizonte or the surrounding metropolitan area (Brazil)
- You are willing to read and sign the informed consent form agreeing to take part in the study
Who may not be able to join:
- You have been diagnosed with a specific type of gastrointestinal tumor called a carcinoid tumor or a GIST (gastrointestinal stromal tumor)
- You have an ileostomy (a surgically created opening connected to the small intestine)
- You have a colostomy located in the ascending (right-side) part of the large bowel
- You have an inflammatory bowel disease such as Crohn's disease or Colitis
- You have taken antibiotics or antifungal medications in the last 15 days
- You have used prebiotics, probiotics, or synbiotics (gut health supplements) in the last 15 days
- You have taken anti-diarrhea medication in the last 15 days
- You currently have a fever or are experiencing mucus discharge
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding
- You do not wish to participate in the study
