Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have swelling in the central part of the retina (the macula), with the central thickness measuring more than 300 microns on a specific eye scan called an OCT
- People who have not received a specific eye injection called bevacizumab in the last 3 months, and have not received steroid eye injections in the last 6 months
- People whose vision is not worse than 20/400 (a measure of how clearly someone can see)
- People who have given their consent to take part in the study
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have other retinal conditions apart from diabetic macular edema, including eye inflammation (uveitis), a membrane growing over the retina, a blocked vein at the back of the eye, or macular swelling caused by other conditions
- People who have an advanced form of diabetic eye disease called proliferative diabetic retinopathy, or who have previously had eye surgery to remove the jelly inside the eye (vitrectomy)
- People who have glaucoma (a condition causing increased pressure in the eye), bleeding inside the eye, or age-related macular degeneration
- People who have cloudiness or other issues in the eye that would make it difficult to interpret diagnostic tests
- People who have had eye surgery or a procedure within the 3 months before starting treatment
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
- People who have a known allergy to curcumin
- People who are currently taking the blood-thinning medication warfarin
- People whose diagnosis changes or who need surgical treatment during the course of the study
- People whose general health condition changes significantly during the study
- People who do not attend their follow-up appointments
- People who withdraw their consent to continue treatment and follow-up
