Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults aged 18 or older at the time of enrollment
- People who have been diagnosed with pancreatic or colorectal cancer confirmed through a tissue or cell sample (note: neuroendocrine tumors of the pancreas or colon are not included)
- People whose cancer is at an advanced stage — either spread to nearby areas or to other parts of the body — with no plans for surgery aimed at curing the cancer in the next 3 months
- People who have experienced at least one of the following in the past 14 days: nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, unintended weight loss/muscle wasting, or pain
- People who are about to start, or have started within the past 2 weeks, standard chemotherapy (not including immunotherapy) at a participating clinic, and who have not had any systemic cancer treatment in the past 3 months (prior chemotherapy given before or after surgery is allowed if it was more than 3 months ago)
- People who currently live in Minnesota
- People who are willing to register with the Minnesota Medical Cannabis Program and follow all of its rules
- People who are willing to complete surveys about their symptoms and health at required points during the trial
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have regularly used a cannabis product containing THC — meaning 10 or more days in the past 30 days
- People who have previously had a bad reaction or sensitivity to cannabis (for example, cannabis hyperemesis syndrome, which is severe vomiting caused by cannabis use)
- People who have Alzheimer's disease, active epilepsy, or a history of traumatic brain injury
- People who have known cancer that has spread to the brain and is active or untreated
- People who are receiving immunotherapy, a combination of chemotherapy and immunotherapy, non-standard chemotherapy, or who are taking part in another clinical trial involving an experimental cancer treatment
- Women who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or able to become pregnant and not using birth control
- People with serious uncontrolled medical or psychiatric conditions, or significant abnormal lab results, that the trial doctor believes could make participation unsafe or affect the trial's results (confirm with trial site)
- People with any other condition that the trial doctor believes could affect their safety or their ability to follow the trial's requirements (confirm with trial site)
