Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are aged 19 or older but under 80 years old and have been diagnosed with gout
- You have been taking gout medication to lower uric acid levels (either allopurinol, febuxostat, or both together) for at least the past 5 years

Who may not be able to join:
- You regularly need to take low-dose colchicine or anti-inflammatory painkillers (NSAIDs) to prevent gout attacks
- You are already taking a very low dose of gout-lowering medication on its own (very low-dose allopurinol or very low-dose febuxostat alone — confirm with trial site for exact doses)
- You are taking certain other medications that can affect uric acid levels, such as specific water tablets (diuretics), fenofibrate, benzbromarone, or losartan
- You drink alcohol heavily — for men under 65, more than 14 drinks per week; for women or men aged 65 and over, more than 7 drinks per week
- You have had a bad allergic reaction to febuxostat or allopurinol in the past
- You have an unstable heart or cardiovascular condition that currently requires urgent changes to your treatment
- You are taking medications called mercaptopurine or azathioprine
- You have certain rare inherited conditions affecting how your body processes sugars, such as galactose intolerance or glucose-galactose malabsorption
- You have moderate or severe liver problems, based on abnormal liver blood test results
- The trial doctors feel that changing your gout medication dose could put you at significant risk, or that something may seriously affect your ability to take the medication as required
