Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You are between 40 and 85 years old.
  • You have been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease by a movement disorder specialist for more than 5 years.
  • Even though your Parkinson's medication helps with some symptoms, you still experience "freezing of gait" (episodes where your feet feel stuck to the ground) that cannot be controlled by your current medication.
  • You may or may not have pain in your legs or other non-movement symptoms related to Parkinson's.
  • Your walking difficulties are caused only by Parkinson's disease, and not by any other condition.

Who may not be able to join:

  • You have been diagnosed with an atypical form of Parkinson's disease (a similar but different condition).
  • You have a spinal cord injury.
  • Your freezing of gait is already well-controlled by your medication.
  • You have narrowing of the spinal canal or spinal cord damage near the area where the device would be implanted (this can be checked with an MRI).
  • You have had previous surgery in the area where the device would be implanted, or there is an infection in that area that could affect the procedure or raise safety concerns.
  • You have a blood clotting disorder (such as haemophilia) or take long-term blood-thinning medication that cannot be safely stopped before the procedure.
  • You have moderate to severe dementia, based on a standard memory and thinking assessment (confirm with trial site).
  • You are allergic to contrast dye, which is a substance sometimes used during medical imaging procedures.
