Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been diagnosed with lumbar radiculopathy (nerve pain in the lower back caused by a slipped or herniated disc), where their symptoms match what is shown on their lower back MRI scan
- People between 18 and 65 years of age
- People who have agreed to take part in the study
- People who are able to read and write
Who may not be able to join:
- People who are pregnant
- People who have a cardiac pacemaker (a device implanted in the chest to help regulate the heartbeat)
- People who have been diagnosed with an inflammatory rheumatic disease (such as rheumatoid arthritis or similar conditions)
- People who have been diagnosed with polyneuropathy (a condition affecting multiple nerves throughout the body) that would prevent them from receiving treatment
- People who have been diagnosed with cancer within the last year, or who are currently receiving chemotherapy or radiotherapy
- People who have a serious psychiatric (mental health) illness
- People who have a severe disorder affecting blood clotting
- People who have spinal stenosis where the spinal canal is very narrow (less than 8 mm in diameter)
- People who have neurological problems (such as weakness or loss of feeling) that would prevent them from receiving treatment
- People who have an active infection
- People who have vasculitis (inflammation of the blood vessels)
- People who have a skin condition or skin problem in the area where treatment would be applied
- People who have had steroid injections or physical therapy for their lower back within the last 3 months
- People who have had surgery on their lower back (lumbar spine)
- People who have a recent acute injury or trauma
- People who have a history of instability in the lower back (lumbar instability)
- People who have uncontrolled or severe heart or metabolic conditions (such as uncontrolled diabetes or heart disease)
