Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 18 or older
- People who have a type of irregular heart rhythm called atrial fibrillation (AF) that is not caused by heart valve problems and is not the short, occasional type — and who were first diagnosed with AF within the last 5 years
- People whose irregular heart rhythm came back after their first catheter ablation procedure (a treatment to correct the rhythm), lasted more than 24 hours, and did not stop on its own
- People who are not currently taking certain heart rhythm medications (such as amiodarone, dronedarone, or propafenone) after their ablation procedure, and who are willing to take these types of medications and have no medical reasons to avoid them — OR people who were taking these medications after the procedure but have stopped for more than one month
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have previously had heart surgery, such as bypass surgery or a heart valve replacement
- People who also have a disease affecting the heart muscle, such as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, dilated cardiomyopathy, or ischaemic cardiomyopathy
- People whose heart ultrasound shows that the left upper chamber of the heart is 50mm or larger in diameter, or who have valve changes related to rheumatic heart disease
- People with a previous history of thyroid problems
- People with severe liver or kidney disease, or a history of kidney dialysis
- People whose heart rate is below 60 beats per minute, or who have certain problems with the heart's electrical conduction system, at the time their heart rhythm returns to normal after the ablation procedure
- People whose heart pumping strength (left ventricular ejection fraction) is below 40%, or who have severe heart failure symptoms (classified as NYHA class III or IV), after their ablation procedure
- People who are currently taking part in another clinical trial of a drug or medical device
- People whom the trial doctors consider should not be included, based on other health conditions or concerns (confirm with trial site)
