Who may be able to join
- People aged 55 or older (male or female)
- People who have been diagnosed with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS) according to specific diagnostic guidelines (McDonald 2017 criteria)
- People whose first MS symptom appeared more than 5 years ago, or if that date is unknown, people who received their RRMS diagnosis more than 5 years ago
- People whose MS has been stable for the last 5 years, meaning: no new lesions on brain scans (MRI) compared to a scan from at least 5 years ago, a stable disability score over the same period as assessed by a doctor, and no relapses in the last 5 years
- People who have been continuously treated with a moderate-strength MS medication for at least 5 years — this includes interferon-beta, glatiramer acetate, dimethyl fumarate, teriflunomide, or diroximel fumarate (switching between these medications for personal reasons or due to side effects is acceptable)
- People who are enrolled in a social security scheme (confirm with trial site, as this appears to be a French regulatory requirement)
- People who are able to understand the goals and risks of the study and are willing to give their informed consent
- People who are willing and able to follow all study procedures for the full duration of the trial
Who may not be able to join
Each point below is a reason the trial team may not be able to accept someone. It is not a list of requirements to meet.
- People who have a type of MS other than relapsing-remitting, such as primary progressive MS or secondary progressive MS (with or without relapses)
- People who have previously been treated with, or are currently taking, a high-strength MS medication — with an exception for certain intensive treatments (mitoxantrone, stem cell transplantation, or alemtuzumab) if the last dose was given at least 10 years before joining the trial
- People for whom an MRI scan would not be safe or possible, for example due to claustrophobia, weight of 140 kg or more, a pacemaker, cochlear implants, metal fragments in the eye, certain surgical clips in the brain, or recent surgery or coronary stent placement (note: an inability to receive the contrast dye used in some MRI scans does not prevent participation — the scan can be done without it)
- People who have a history of another neurological or brain-related disease, such as a hereditary degenerative brain condition, a degenerative memory condition, a systemic autoimmune disease, sarcoidosis, or Lyme disease
- People who have a long-term condition that requires ongoing treatment with steroids or immune-suppressing medications
- People with uncontrolled heart, kidney, or liver disease
- People who are currently taking part in another clinical trial involving a drug or medical device, or who are within a required waiting period after a previous trial
- People who wish to stop their current MS background medication, regardless of whether they are experiencing side effects
- People who do not wish to stop their current MS background medication, regardless of whether they are experiencing side effects
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
- People who have difficulty reading or understanding French
- People who are under a legal protection order (confirm with trial site)
