Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You have been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease according to standard medical guidelines
  • You are between 40 and 85 years old
  • You are either not currently taking Parkinson's medication, or you have been on a stable dose of Parkinson's medication for at least two weeks
  • Your Parkinson's symptoms are mild to moderate (Hoehn & Yahr stage 3 or below — confirm with trial site if unsure what stage you are)

  • You are willing to provide stool (poo) samples at set points during the study
  • You are willing to fast (no food or drink except water, tea, or coffee) for at least 12 hours before each sample collection
  • You are willing to stop taking supplements, probiotics, herbal products, or high-dose vitamins or minerals that could affect inflammation for the duration of the study
  • You do not have any medical or personal circumstances that would make it difficult to take part in a six-month study

Who may not be able to join:

  • You have a form of parkinsonism that is not standard Parkinson's disease (such as atypical or secondary parkinsonism)
  • You are underweight, with a BMI below 18.5
  • You are obese, with a BMI above 30
  • You are pregnant or think you might be pregnant
  • You require help or special equipment to eat and drink normally
  • You receive nutrition through a tube (enteral nutrition)
  • You have a long-term autoimmune disease
  • You have regularly used immunosuppressive (immune-suppressing) medications in the past year
  • You have regularly used chemotherapy or other cytotoxic cancer drugs in the past year
  • You have had major surgery on your abdomen
  • You are currently taking part in another clinical trial
  • You have already deliberately changed your diet since being diagnosed with Parkinson's disease
