As a control participant (without Parkinson's disease):
- People who are able to give their own informed consent to participate
- People who are 50 years of age or older
- People who identify as Black or African American
As a participant with a Parkinson's disease diagnosis:
- People who are able to give their own informed consent to participate
- People who are 18 years of age or older
- People who identify as Black or African American
- People who have been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease according to the Movement Disorder Society's official diagnostic guidelines
Who may not be able to join:
Control participants may not be eligible if they:
- Have a diagnosis of Parkinson's disease or any other neurological condition
- Have a family history of Parkinson's disease, a neurodegenerative condition, or a psychiatric condition
- Have an unknown family history of Parkinson's disease, neurodegenerative conditions, or psychiatric conditions
- Have any other health condition that, in the trial team's opinion, would prevent them from taking part in study activities
- Are unable to avoid eating, drinking, chewing gum, using tobacco, or smoking for 30 minutes before providing a saliva sample (if a saliva sample is being submitted)
Participants with a Parkinson's disease diagnosis may not be eligible if they:
