Who may be able to join

  • People who have been diagnosed with Crohn's disease (CD) based on widely accepted diagnostic standards that consider clinical symptoms, camera examination of the gut, and tissue samples.
  • People who have signs of inflammation in the oesophagus (food pipe), stomach, or duodenum (first part of the small intestine), confirmed by two independent specialists reviewing the camera examination and by laboratory analysis of tissue samples, showing Crohn's disease involvement in the upper digestive tract.
  • People whose Crohn's disease treatment has been stable — meaning no changes to their treatment — for at least 2 weeks.

Who may not be able to join

Each point below is a reason the trial team may not be able to accept someone. It is not a list of requirements to meet.

  • People whose inflammation in the oesophagus, stomach, or duodenum is caused by something other than Crohn's disease, such as acid reflux, herpes, cytomegalovirus, eosinophilic conditions, or a bacterial infection called Helicobacter pylori.
  • People who have used steroid tablets or injections (systemic steroids) within the 30 days before joining the study.
  • People who have used steroid inhalers within the 30 days before joining the study.
  • People who have used proton pump inhibitors (medicines that reduce stomach acid, such as omeprazole) within the 30 days before joining the study.
  • People who have had an acute viral or bacterial infection within the 30 days before joining the study.
  • People whose morning cortisol level (a hormone measured by a blood test) is below a certain threshold (confirm with trial site).
  • Children whose parents or guardians have not given consent for them to take part, or young people aged 16 and over who have not given their own consent to participate.
  • People who are currently pregnant.
  • People who are currently breastfeeding.
  • Women of childbearing age or men who are able to father children who have not agreed to follow the contraception recommendations required during the study.
