Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are scheduled for planned (non-emergency) heart surgery through a full chest opening (sternotomy)
- Your surgery is for one or more of the following conditions: blocked heart arteries, aortic valve problems, mitral valve problems, tricuspid valve problems, or disease of the main artery leaving the heart (ascending aorta)
Who may not be able to join:
- You have a history of any irregular heart rhythm (such as atrial fibrillation or other arrhythmias), regardless of how long it lasted
- You are having this heart surgery for a second time (reoperation)
- Your surgery is needed urgently due to a heart attack or severe heart failure (cardiogenic shock)
- You have a thyroid condition of any kind
- You have a condition called hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy (HOCM), which is a thickening of the heart muscle that blocks blood flow (confirm with trial site)
- You have a pacemaker or an implanted heart defibrillator (ICD)
