Who might be able to join this trial:

  • Adolescents aged 13 to 17 years old
  • Those who score above a certain threshold for anxiety or depression symptoms on a standard self-report questionnaire completed at the start of the study
  • Those who have received a primary diagnosis of an anxiety or depressive disorder based on a structured clinical interview using standard diagnostic criteria (DSM-5)
  • Those who are able to read and understand the Romanian language
  • Those who are either not currently taking any medication, or who have been on a stable and appropriate dose of medication for at least 6 weeks before the treatment begins
  • Those who have access to the internet

Who may not be able to join:

  • Those who have a severe mental health condition such as psychosis, severe depression, or bipolar disorder, as identified through a clinical interview
  • Those who have any physical illness, sensory impairment, or other condition that would make it difficult to take part in the study activities, or who would not be available for the next 3 months
  • Those who have had active thoughts of suicide in the past month, as assessed by a child psychiatrist during a clinical interview
  • Those who are currently receiving, or have received in the last 6 months, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) or any other form of psychotherapy for anxiety or depression
  • Those whose medical or physical circumstances mean they are unable to safely undergo an fMRI scan, based on a safety questionnaire (confirm with trial site)
  • Those who have been diagnosed with an intellectual disability, a pervasive developmental disorder, an alcohol or substance dependence disorder, or a reading disability
  • Those who are currently being treated with benzodiazepine medications
