Who might be able to join this trial:

• Children between 4 and 12 years old
• Children who are generally healthy, with no serious medical conditions
• Children who are already scheduled for at least two dental appointments that will require a numbing injection (local anesthesia)
• A parent or legal guardian must provide written consent for the child to take part
• Children aged 4–9 years need to give verbal agreement to participate, while children aged 10–12 years need to provide written agreement

Who may not be able to join:

• Children who are known to be allergic to dogs or animal fur/dander
• Children who are afraid of or have a phobia of dogs
• Children with a behavioural condition that may affect how they respond to having a therapy dog present (confirm with trial site)
• Children who have previously had a dental procedure involving a numbing injection while a therapy dog was present
• Children with a medical condition that could affect their heart rate, blood pressure, or other vital signs independently of the dental procedure (for example, a heart condition)
• Cases where a parent or guardian feels uncomfortable having a therapy dog present during the procedure
• Children whose behaviour during dental examinations has been rated as "Definitely Negative" using a standard dental behaviour scale called the Frankl Scale (rated Frankl 1)
