Who might be able to join this trial:

• People between 18 and 80 years of age
• People who have been formally diagnosed with mild to moderate persistent asthma by a specialist within the past six months, meeting recognised international asthma guidelines

• People who have been taking inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) medication for at least six months, with no major changes to their asthma medications during that time

• People who have been diagnosed in the past six months with a serious mental health condition such as major depression, bipolar disorder, or schizophrenia
• People with cognitive or neurological conditions — such as dementia or effects from a stroke — that may affect their ability to understand or take part in the study
• People currently taking antipsychotic, antidepressant, or sedative medications
• People with a history of alcohol or drug misuse in the past six months, including opioids, benzodiazepines, or illegal substances
• People with uncontrolled lung or heart conditions such as COPD, heart failure, or uncontrolled high blood pressure
• People with chronic conditions that require long-term steroid tablets, such as rheumatic or autoimmune diseases
• People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
• People diagnosed with a specific lung condition called Allergic Bronchopulmonary Aspergillosis (ABPA) or similar conditions that could affect how results are interpreted
• People who have taken part in another interventional clinical trial within the past three months, particularly those related to breathing conditions or medication habits
• People who are unable to reliably take part in phone-based sessions due to hearing difficulties, communication barriers, or other reasons
• People who have previously refused or had a negative reaction to psychological support interventions such as phone-based relaxation or motivational interviewing
