Who might be able to join this trial:
If you have Parkinson's or a related condition (such as stroke, multiple sclerosis, arthritis, or osteoporosis):
- You have been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease or one of the other listed conditions
- You can describe having daily walking difficulties, such as freezing on the spot or shuffling steps (for Parkinson's), or walking and movement problems related to your condition
- You are able to walk, with or without a walking aid, for at least 5 minutes, and have passed a basic health and activity questionnaire (if you are over 69, you should already be used to this level of activity)
- You are 18 years old or older
- You have normal vision or vision corrected with glasses/lenses to a satisfactory level, or you can move around safely with some support
- You have a sufficient level of memory and thinking ability, either shown by a cognitive test score or by being able to follow a simple two-step instruction
If you are a healthy volunteer (no long-term conditions affecting movement):
- You have no long-term conditions that affect how you move
- You are able to walk, with or without a walking aid, for at least 3 minutes, and have passed a basic health and activity questionnaire (if you are over 69, you should already be used to this level of activity)
- You are 18 years old or older
- You have normal vision or vision corrected with glasses/lenses to a satisfactory level, or you can move around safely with some support
- You have a sufficient level of memory and thinking ability, either shown by a cognitive test score or by being able to follow a simple two-step instruction
Who may not be able to join:
- You have a physical or mental health condition that would make it unsafe for you to take part in this level of activity, or that affects your ability to understand and follow instructions
- You have memory or thinking difficulties that would make it unsafe to take part or follow instructions during the study
- You have an injury or health condition (other than the conditions listed above) that affects your balance
- You have a skin condition or broken skin on your lower leg or behind your knee
- You have a deep brain stimulator, pacemaker, or any other implanted device that could interfere with the study's measurement equipment
- You are taking medications that are likely to affect your eyesight or your ability to use a virtual reality system (this exclusion applies to participants with Parkinson's or a related condition; confirm with trial site for healthy volunteers)
