Who may be able to join

  • People who are older than 18 years of age.
  • People who have given their documented, signed agreement to take part in the trial.
  • People who have been diagnosed with non-small cell lung cancer (a type of lung cancer), confirmed by a tissue sample taken with a needle, and whose cancer has been classified as stage II or III (but not involving a specific lymph node classification called N2), and whose cancer is suitable for treatment with a combination of immunotherapy (nivolumab) and chemotherapy before surgery.
  • People whose cancer cells test positive for a protein called PD-L1 at a level above 50%.
  • People who have no history of immune system disorders, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, or HIV.
  • Female participants who are not currently pregnant.
  • Female participants who are capable of becoming pregnant and who agree to use a highly reliable form of contraception (with less than 1% chance of failure per year) or who consistently abstain from heterosexual intercourse as their usual lifestyle — both during the treatment period and for at least 180 days after the last dose — and who agree not to donate or store eggs for reproductive use during this time.
  • Female participants who are capable of becoming pregnant and who have had a negative pregnancy test (urine or blood, depending on local requirements) within 24 hours (urine) or 72 hours (blood) before the first dose of treatment.
  • People whose general physical condition and ability to carry out daily activities is rated at a level of 0 or 1 on a standard medical scale (meaning they are fully active or have only minor limitations).
  • People whose blood, kidney, and liver function are considered healthy enough to receive the planned chemotherapy and immunotherapy combination, as assessed by the treating doctor.
  • People who have signed the written consent form.

Who may not be able to join

Each point below is a reason the trial team may not be able to accept someone. It is not a list of requirements to meet.

  • People whose lung cancer is located or classified in one of the following ways: in the upper groove of the chest area (superior sulcus), a type called large cell neuroendocrine cancer, or a type called sarcomatoid tumour.
  • People who have a history of, or currently have, a lung inflammation condition (not caused by infection) called pneumonitis or interstitial lung disease that required steroid treatment.
  • People who currently have an active infection that requires treatment with medication throughout the body (such as antibiotics or antivirals).
  • People who have received a transplant of someone else's tissue or a solid organ.
  • People who have any condition, past treatment, or abnormal test result that — in the treating doctor's opinion — could affect the trial results, prevent them from completing the full trial, or make participation not in their best interest.
  • People who have known psychiatric conditions or substance use problems that would make it difficult to follow the requirements of the trial.
  • People who have had another cancer that is still growing or required active treatment within the past 5 years. (Note: People who have had certain skin cancers, bladder cancer, or cancer confined to one area — such as cervical or breast carcinoma in situ — that were treated with the goal of cure are not excluded, confirm with trial site.)
