Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who are comfortable reading and writing in English
- People who own a smartphone and are willing and able to use a specific mobile app called Eureka
- People who have been diagnosed with a type of irregular heartbeat called paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (AFib), where episodes come and go, and who do not have plans to change how their AFib is being managed during the two-week study period
- People who have had at least one AFib episode in the past month, or who a healthcare provider believes could potentially have an episode in the next month
- People who have drunk alcohol on at least one day per week on average over the past month
- People who are willing and able to be randomly assigned each day — either to avoid drinking alcohol or to not avoid it — over a two-week period
- People who are willing and able to give written consent to participate
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose only experience of AFib occurred after a surgical procedure
- People whose heart has a very high rate of being paced by a device (more than 40% of the time) (confirm with trial site)
- People with a history of alcohol addiction or alcohol misuse, as determined by self-reported history or a screening questionnaire
- People who have an intolerance to alcohol
- People with a history of liver disease
- People who are currently incarcerated
- People who are currently pregnant or trying to become pregnant
