Who might be able to join this trial:
- You have been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes for more than 1 year.
- You are between 18 and 65 years old.
- Your body mass index (a measure of body weight relative to height) is 27 or above.
- Your long-term blood sugar level (measured by an HbA1c test) is between 7.5% and 10%.
- Your blood sugar has not been well controlled even though you have been taking multiple daily insulin injections for at least 1 year.
Who may not be able to join:
- You have a personal or family history of a specific type of thyroid cancer (medullary thyroid carcinoma) or a related hormonal condition called MEN 2 syndrome.
- You currently use an insulin pump to manage your diabetes.
- You have previously used certain blood sugar-lowering medications known as GLP-1 receptor agonists or DPP-4 inhibitors, or any medication (other than insulin) that could affect blood sugar or your safety.
- Your kidneys are not working well enough (based on a specific kidney function test result) (confirm with trial site).
- You have liver disease shown by certain liver test results being more than three times higher than normal.
- You have a history of pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas).
- You have a condition called gastroparesis, where the stomach empties too slowly.
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- You have a history of alcohol or drug misuse, or a medical or psychological condition that may make participation unsuitable.
- You currently have or frequently get urinary tract infections or genital infections (3 or more times per year).
- You have had a severe low blood sugar episode requiring hospital or emergency care in the past 3 months.
- You have had a dangerous diabetes-related complication called diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) requiring hospital or emergency care in the past 12 months.
- You have used weight-loss medications, had weight-loss surgery, or followed an intensive diet causing unstable body weight in the past 3 months.
