Who might be able to join this trial:
If you have high blood pressure (affected individuals):
- Children aged 2–12 years who have a blood pressure reading above a certain level for their age (above the 95th percentile or 120/80 mmHg), confirmed by medical records, and who are willing to give biological samples, have a physical exam, share family and medical history, and have some imaging or body measurements taken (such as a kidney ultrasound)
- Teenagers aged 13–17 years who have a blood pressure of at least 130/80 mmHg, confirmed by medical records, with the same willingness to participate as above
- Adults aged 18 or older who had high blood pressure meeting the above criteria as a child or teenager, confirmed by medical records, and who are willing to give biological samples, have a physical exam, and share family and medical history
If you are a healthy family member (unaffected individuals):
- You are a close (first-degree) relative — such as a parent, sibling, or child — of the first family member identified in the study
- You are willing to give biological samples, have a physical exam, and share family and medical history
If you carry a specific gene variant being studied:
- You have previously had genetic testing done (through clinical or research testing)
- That genetic testing returned a positive result for a specific gene variant the study team is investigating
- You are willing to share your family and medical history, allow access to relevant medical records, have a physical exam, and (if aged 2–17 with signs of early-onset high blood pressure) undergo imaging or body measurements
Who may not be able to join:
If you have high blood pressure (affected individuals):
- Your body weight falls above the 95th percentile for your age and height (higher BMI range)
- Your high blood pressure is known to be caused by another medical condition, such as chronic kidney disease, a heart/artery condition, or sleep apnea
- You have difficulty making decisions for yourself, even with the help of a legal representative (confirm with trial site)
If you are a healthy family member (unaffected individuals):
- You have been diagnosed with early-onset high blood pressure related to this study's condition (confirm with trial site)
- You are a more distant relative (such as a grandparent, aunt, uncle, or cousin) rather than a parent, sibling, or child of the identified family member
- You have difficulty making decisions for yourself, even with the help of a legal representative (confirm with trial site)
If you carry a specific gene variant being studied:
- There are no previous genetic testing results available for the study team to review
- You have difficulty making decisions for yourself, even with the help of a legal representative (confirm with trial site)
