Who may be able to join

  • People who are able and willing to give their informed consent to take part.
  • People who are able to take part in all parts of this clinical study.
  • Men and women aged 18 to 80 years old at the time of their screening visit.
  • People who have been diagnosed with moderate to severe ulcerative colitis, confirmed by clinical assessment and an endoscopy.
  • People who have never previously been treated with a type of medicine called a biological therapy.

Who may not be able to join

Each point below is a reason the trial team may not be able to accept someone. It is not a list of requirements to meet.

  • People who have previously been treated with the medicines infliximab (IFX) or ustekinumab (UST), or any product containing these medicines.
  • People who have a history of allergic reactions or sensitivity to the ingredients found in infliximab or ustekinumab.
  • People who have unstable angina (a type of chest pain caused by reduced blood flow to the heart).
  • People who have moderate or severe heart failure, classified as New York Heart Association Class III or IV (confirm with trial site).
  • People who have chronic respiratory failure (long-term serious difficulty breathing).
  • People who have a history of major neurological conditions, including stroke, multiple sclerosis, brain tumour, or a degenerative disease of the nervous system.
  • People who have a chronic hepatitis B or C infection — though people with certain positive hepatitis B or C blood test results at screening may still be considered if a more specific follow-up test (polymerase chain reaction) is negative and they receive appropriate antiviral treatment if needed (confirm with trial site).
  • People who are known to have severe long-term kidney failure.
  • People who are known to have severe long-term liver failure.
  • People who are known to have active or latent (inactive but present) tuberculosis.
  • People who have an ongoing HIV infection.
