Who may be able to join
- People aged 18 years or older who are willing to sign a consent form to take part.
- People diagnosed with Marfan syndrome and a thoracic aortic aneurysm (an enlarged blood vessel in the chest), whether they are being monitored or are scheduled for heart surgery.

Who may not be able to join

- People who have any of the following cardiovascular risk factors: high blood pressure, high cholesterol or fats in the blood, diabetes, a smoking habit, or a history of heart or blood vessel disease.
- People who have taken corticosteroids, steroids, or fluoroquinolone antibiotics within the six months before joining the trial, or who are on long-term immunosuppressive therapy including oral or topical steroids applied to the area being studied.
- People who have a history of keloid scarring (a type of raised, overgrown scar tissue that forms after skin injury).
- People who have a known allergy to anaesthetic drugs.
