Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults aged 18 or older who are scheduled to have a specific type of major abdominal surgery (called a Whipple procedure) for a suspected or confirmed removable tumour of the pancreas, the lower bile duct, or a particular type of tumour at the point where the bile duct meets the small intestine
- People whose imaging scans (CT, MRI, or ultrasound) suggest that the connection made during surgery between the pancreas and the digestive tract carries a high risk of developing a leak after the operation
- People who are willing and able to provide written consent to participate in the trial
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose tumour is a type of duodenal cancer, a certain subtype of ampullary cancer (intestinal type), a neuroendocrine tumour, a non-cancerous tumour, or who have chronic inflammation of the pancreas
- People whose medical condition means the trial team considers them unable to understand the nature or consequences of taking part in the trial
- People who are pregnant (women who could potentially become pregnant will need to have a pregnancy blood test before joining)
- People who are unable to follow the study procedures for reasons such as psychological difficulties or dementia
