Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who are between 50 and 84 years old at the time of joining (based on birth year, not birth month)
- People who have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes within the last 180 days (with a small flexibility window of 20 days), or whose blood sugar marker (HbA1c) test result is at or above the level used to diagnose diabetes
- People who are willing to provide up to 30 mL of blood (roughly 2 tablespoons) at each study visit
- People who are willing and able to have an MRI scan, or a CT scan if an MRI is not suitable for them
- People who understand what the study involves and are willing to participate and sign a consent form
Who may not be able to join:
- People who were diagnosed with type 1 or type 2 diabetes more than 6 months ago
- People who have a history of pancreatic cancer, a type of pancreatic tumour called a neuroendocrine tumour, or pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas)
- People who are currently being investigated for pancreatic cancer or a pancreatic cyst
- People who have had pancreatic surgery (other than a specific procedure called ERCP), or any other major surgery requiring general anaesthesia within the past 3 months
- People who have had an invasive solid or blood cancer in the past 3 years, including a cancer that has come back after treatment within that time
- People who have been taking steroid tablets or systemic steroids regularly or for a short-term illness within approximately 3 months of their diabetes diagnosis or initial blood sugar test
- People who have had a blood transfusion within the past month
- People who have received a solid organ transplant (such as a kidney, liver, or heart transplant)
- People who are currently pregnant
- People who are currently receiving dialysis (a treatment that does the work of the kidneys)
