Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer or a pancreatic growth that has the potential to become cancerous, confirmed by tissue sample or imaging.
- People who have a planned surgical removal of the tail/left portion of the pancreas (distal pancreatectomy) scheduled to take place within 60 days of joining the trial.
- People aged 18 or older.
- People who have had a full medical check-up and physical examination completed within the 28 days before joining.
- People whose kidney function blood test results are within an acceptable range, tested within 60 days before joining.
- People who are currently taking certain medications (including diabetes medications, cyclosporine, bromocriptine, heart medications, or certain other drugs) may still be eligible, provided the study team and treating doctor put an appropriate monitoring and management plan in place.
- People whose surgeon, based on pre-surgery information, has determined that a standard distal pancreatectomy is appropriate — note that planned removal of the gallbladder or spleen at the same time is acceptable.
- People whose liver enzyme levels are not significantly elevated (unless a temporary rise has returned to acceptable levels before joining).
- People who are not pregnant or breastfeeding.
- People who are capable of pregnancy or fathering a child must have agreed to use effective contraception throughout the study and for three months after receiving the study drug.
- People who have been fully informed about the trial's investigational nature and have signed a consent form. Where a person is unable to make decisions for themselves, a legally authorised representative may provide consent on their behalf.
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have a known history of malabsorption syndrome (a condition where the body cannot properly absorb nutrients from food).
- People who have been treated with a type of medication called a somatostatin analogue within the 180 days before joining.
- People who have previously received radiation therapy directed at their pancreatic cancer at any point before joining.
- People who have previously received a treatment called peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PRRT) at any point before joining.
- People whose surgeon determines, based on pre-surgery information, that a more complex operation involving removal of a major blood vessel (modified Appleby procedure) or removal of other organs such as the stomach or colon will be needed.
- People whose surgeon determines that the surgery would involve removing the tumour by cutting it out from surrounding tissue without removing part of the pancreas (tumour enucleation).
- People with moderate to severe liver impairment, as shown by significantly elevated liver enzyme levels on blood tests within the 60 days before joining (confirm specific numbers with trial site).
