Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged between 18 and 55 years old
- People who have been diagnosed with depression by a psychiatrist using a structured clinical interview based on the DSM-5 (the standard medical guide for mental health conditions)
- People whose depression symptoms score 17 or above on a standard depression rating scale (HAMD-17), with a notable score on the core depression item

- People who are currently pregnant or breastfeeding
- People with a serious physical illness or whose physical health is currently unstable
- People who have used anti-inflammatory medications for more than 7 days in total over the past 2 months, or who have used immune-suppressing drugs such as steroids
- People with ongoing chronic infectious or autoimmune conditions, such as lupus, inflammatory bowel disease, or hepatitis
- People with a history of substance dependence or substance misuse
