Who might be able to join this trial:

• People who have been diagnosed with rectal cancer (a type of bowel cancer) confirmed by a tissue sample test
• People whose cancer has spread into or beyond the rectal wall to a certain extent, and/or have specific higher-risk features such as cancer in nearby blood or lymph vessels or spread to nearby lymph nodes
• People who are able to sign a written consent form agreeing to take part
• People aged 18 or older who are male or female and not pregnant
• People who are planned to receive a full course of radiation treatment for their cancer
• People who are willing and able to follow the study requirements for the whole duration of the trial

Who may not be able to join:

• People who cannot have an MRI scan for reasons such as severe claustrophobia, very high body weight, having metal implants or devices in the body that are not safe for MRI (such as certain pacemakers), or incomplete records about past surgeries
• People who have previously had radiotherapy treatment to the pelvic area (lower abdomen/hip region)
• People who have inflammatory bowel disease (such as Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis)
• People with another serious or poorly controlled illness, or other significant health or test result findings that the treating doctor considers would make participation unsuitable
• People with a history of a physical or mental health condition that would prevent them from giving informed consent or following the study requirements
• People who have a de-functioning stoma (a surgically created opening in the abdomen that has been closed off or is no longer actively used) (confirm with trial site)
• People who have had major surgery within 28 days before entering the trial
