Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You are 20 years of age or older (any gender)
  • You have high uric acid levels in your blood (above 7.0 mg/dL), and either have not taken any uric acid-lowering medication in the past 27 days, or stopped taking such medication more than 27 days ago
  • You have high blood pressure that meets the Japanese Society of Hypertension's guidelines, and your high blood pressure treatment (whether or not it includes medication) has not changed in the past 4 weeks
  • You have read and signed a written agreement to take part in this study

Who may not be able to join:

  • You are currently recovering from a recent gout attack that has not fully settled down
  • You currently have kidney or urinary tract stones
  • You have high uric acid caused by certain specific underlying conditions, such as Lesch-Nyhan syndrome, certain blood cancers, certain solid tumours, psoriasis, some types of anaemia, thyroid problems, polycystic kidney disease, or several other specific medical conditions (confirm with trial site for the full list)
  • You are experiencing a severe high blood pressure emergency or crisis
  • You currently have an active cancer
  • You have severe liver problems
  • You have severe kidney problems where you produce little or no urine
  • You are pregnant, possibly pregnant, or currently breastfeeding
  • You have previously had an allergic reaction to the study drugs dotinurad or febuxostat
  • You are currently taking the medications mercaptopurine or azathioprine
  • The trial doctor has decided for any other reason that the trial is not appropriate for you (confirm with trial site)
