Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People who are willing and able to take part in all trial activities and who can sign and date a consent form before any trial procedures begin
  • People aged 18 to 75 years, of any gender
  • People who have been diagnosed with a diabetic ulcer (wound related to diabetes) located on the top or bottom of the foot, or below the knee
  • People whose wound is classified as a moderate-depth diabetic ulcer (Wagner grade 2) without a whole-body infection
  • People whose largest wound is smaller than 25 square centimetres, and where all individual wounds are also smaller than that size
  • People whose wound has been present for at least 12 weeks before joining the trial, and who have already been receiving standard wound care for at least 4 weeks
  • People where there is at least 3 centimetres of clear skin between the main wound and any other wounds on the same foot (measured after wound cleaning)

Who may not be able to join:

  • People with a known allergy to the ingredients of the trial gel (MDI-1228 mesylate), or to a class of medicines called JAK inhibitors (such as tofacitinib, baricitinib, or ruxolitinib), or people known to have a generally allergy-prone constitution
  • People whose skin ulcer or chronic wound was caused by electric shock, chemical exposure, or radioactive material
  • People whose main wound has already shrunk by 30% or more in the past 4 weeks while receiving standard care
  • People who have a wound caused by cancer, or who have certain immune system or connective tissue conditions such as lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, or scleroderma
