Who might be able to join this trial:
- Children who are generally healthy or have only a mild health condition, as classified by a standard anaesthesia health grading system (known as ASA Grade I or II)
- Children between 1 and 6 years of age
- Children who are scheduled to have elective (non-emergency) surgery requiring general anaesthesia
- Children whose weight is within the normal range for their age
- Families who have signed the required consent form agreeing to take part
Who may not be able to join:
- Children whose parent, guardian, or the child themselves does not wish to take part in the study
- Children who have medical reasons why sedation or anaesthesia would not be safe for them, or who have had an unusual or problem reaction to sedation or anaesthesia in the past
- Children who are known to have an allergy to the study medicines, opioid medicines, or any of the emergency/rescue medicines used in the trial
- Children who have a history of heart, brain, liver, kidney, or metabolic (body chemistry) conditions
- Children who have had an upper respiratory tract infection (such as a cold or similar illness affecting the nose, throat, or airways) within the two weeks before the study
- Children who have any other health condition that the trial team considers could cause harm to the child during the study (confirm with trial site)
