Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are 18 years of age or older
- You have had ongoing pain for more than 3 months after a shingles (herpes zoster) skin rash has healed
- Your average pain level is rated at least 4 out of 10 on a pain scale (where 0 means no pain and 10 means the worst pain imaginable)
- You have tried pregabalin (a common pain medication) on its own at a full dose, but it either did not work well enough for you or you were unable to tolerate it
Who may not be able to join:
- You have been diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnoea (a condition where breathing stops and starts during sleep)
- You are currently receiving any procedure-based pain treatments (such as injections or nerve blocks)
- You have a history of immune system diseases affecting the whole body, an organ transplant, or any type of cancer
- You have a history of serious heart, lung, liver, or kidney problems
- You have a history of schizophrenia, epilepsy, myasthenia gravis, or delirium
- You are currently taking a type of medication called monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs)
- You have a type of glaucoma (raised eye pressure) that has not been treated
- You have increased pressure inside your skull (confirm with trial site)
- You have an overactive thyroid or a tumour of the adrenal gland called phaeochromocytoma
- You have a known or suspected history of drug misuse or addiction
- You have any known reason you cannot take esketamine, pregabalin, or duloxetine
- You have significant difficulties with communication
- You are pregnant, breastfeeding, or currently planning to become pregnant
